{"id":697,"date":"2013-01-01T20:26:05","date_gmt":"2013-01-01T20:26:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/echo.coralhoutman.co.uk\/?page_id=697"},"modified":"2016-07-31T20:37:39","modified_gmt":"2016-07-31T20:37:39","slug":"pilot","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/coral.ncvp.net\/echo\/simulation\/pilot\/","title":{"rendered":"Flat screen representation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When we edited\u00a0<strong>Echo\u00a0<\/strong>we designed the cruciform screen display with five different pictures displayed which eventually became the simulation you see <a href=\"https:\/\/coral.ncvp.net\/echo\/simulation-test-page\/\">here<\/a>. \u00a0This was accompanied by a mono soundtrack with 5 audio tracks laid down to represent the 5 screens. \u00a0We realised very soon that this was an unsatisfactory way of displaying the installation. However, you can see from the <a title=\"Trailer\" href=\"https:\/\/coral.ncvp.net\/echo\/?page_id=698\" target=\"_blank\">Riverfront Trailer<\/a> and the still below that the flat screen simply is not immersive &#8211; it does kind of represent a way that montage works in the piece, but the audience is removed, in front of the action, not in the middle of it, as the installation intends. \u00a0In addition, the pictures are very small in order to fit on a single screen, and the eyelines of the characters are actually wrong. \u00a0Tiresias is supposed to be behind the audience talking up to Hera and Zeus, not at the bottom of the same screen.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/coral.ncvp.net\/echo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/echo_sim_squashed.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"511\" height=\"100\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Demonstration Still<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"624\" height=\"351\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-716 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/coral.ncvp.net\/echo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/vlcsnap-2013-01-03-18h02m56s107-624x351.png\" alt=\"vlcsnap-2013-01-03-18h02m56s107\" srcset=\"https:\/\/coral.ncvp.net\/echo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/vlcsnap-2013-01-03-18h02m56s107-624x351.png 624w, https:\/\/coral.ncvp.net\/echo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/vlcsnap-2013-01-03-18h02m56s107-300x168.png 300w, https:\/\/coral.ncvp.net\/echo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/vlcsnap-2013-01-03-18h02m56s107-1024x576.png 1024w, https:\/\/coral.ncvp.net\/echo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/vlcsnap-2013-01-03-18h02m56s107.png 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 624px) 100vw, 624px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The difference in eyeline match is apparent when Tiresias looks up left to find Hera (pictured) or up right to Zeus. \u00a0This crosses the 180% line of action when represented on a flat plane but works as intended in a space where the screens are displayed as intended (see walkthough in <a href=\"https:\/\/coral.ncvp.net\/echo\/installation\/\">installation<\/a> page).<\/p>\n<p>When we had finished editing Echo, we then used this cruciform representation on our master control computer <a href=\"https:\/\/coral.ncvp.net\/echo\/designs\/screen-and-interactive-interface\/\">here<\/a>.\u00a0 It was loaded with burnt in timecode and worked in parallel with the other computers so that we could accurately control the timecode.<\/p>\n<p>We are now working on a way to use rich media content to display a properly interactive web based version of the show, where viewers can choose to zoom in on any of the screens, choose the ending, or even see the screens displayed spatially as they were in the installation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When we edited\u00a0Echo\u00a0we designed the cruciform screen display with five different pictures displayed which eventually became the simulation you see here. \u00a0This was accompanied by a mono soundtrack with 5 audio tracks laid down to represent the 5 screens. \u00a0We realised very soon that this was an unsatisfactory way of displaying the installation.
